2026 Municipal Election

Visit RegisterToVoteON.ca to make sure you are on the voter's list, update information, or add yourself to the list. Your voice is important!
Update your school support designation to ensure your taxes go toward the correct school board and to allow you to vote for the appropriate School Board Trustee. To update your school support designation, follow these steps:
- Visit the Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) online portal at school-support.mpac.ca to access the update process.
- Ensure you are registered with MPAC; if not, you can register by calling 1-866-296-6722.
- Review your current school support designation, which is listed on your Property Assessment Notice.
- Update your designation by June 1, 2026, to be included in the Preliminary List of Electors for the upcoming municipal and school board elections on October 26, 2026.
- If you are a tenant, you can also update your school support designation through the MPAC online portal for tenants.
2026 Municipal and School Board Elections
The next Municipal and School Board Election will take place in October 2026.
The Municipal Elections Act (MEA) is the legal framework that governs municipal elections in Ontario. The MEA outlines the procedures for the elections, such as nomination and voting processes, voter rights and regulates fundraising functions and third party advertisements.
In 2026, Mulmur residents and property owners will be given the opportunity to cast their votes through internet and telephone voting during the designated advanced voting dates or on election day October 26, 2026.
Eligible voters (residents and property owners) will elect several different positions, including:
- Mayor
- Deputy mayor
- Three (3) councillors (elected at-large)
- School Board Trustees for:
Upper Grand District School Board (English-Public School Board Trustee)
Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board (English-Separate (Catholic) School Board Trustee)
Conseil Scolaire Catholique MonAvenir (French-Separate (Catholic) School Board Trustee)
Conseil Scolaire Viamonde (French-Public School Board Trustee)
Once elected, members will serve a four-year term commencing in November 2026.
Important Dates
- Nomination Period: Friday, May 1, 2026 (8:30 a.m.) to Friday, August 21, 2026 (2 p.m.)
- Third Party Registration: Monday, May 1, 2026 (8:30 a.m.) to Friday, October 23, 2026 (4:30 p.m.)
- Deadline for Withdrawal of Nominations: Friday, August 21, 2026 (2 p.m.)
- Election Day: Monday, October 26, 2026 (ends at 8 p.m.)

How do I register?
Interested candidates must submit a completed Nomination Paper (on the prescribed form) with the required fee in-person at the Township Office.

Nomination Papers may be filed during regular office hours from Friday, May 1, 2026, to Friday, August 21, 2026 - Nomination Day. On Nomination Day, nominations will only be accepted from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Filing fees must accompany the Nomination Paper. The prescribed fess are:
- $200 for the Office of the Mayor
- $100 for all other Offices

Am I qualified?
Members of Council:
To be elected or hold office as a member of Council, individuals must, as of the day they file their Nomination Paper, be:
- Entitled to be an elector under the Municipal Elections Act (1996) (the "MEA"), s. 17(2)
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years of age
- A resident in the local municipality, or the owner or tenant of land in the local municipality, or the spouse of such a person, and
- Not prohibited from voting as noted or otherwise by law.
- Not disqualified for violation of financial requirements or violations of requirements for filing financial information.
- Not disqualified by any Act from holding such office.
- Not disqualified under the provisions as outlined by the MEA, s. 90(2) and 91(1).
School Board Trustees:
To be elected as a school board trustee, individuals must, as of the day they file their Nomination Paper, be:
- A Canadian citizen
- At least 18 years of age
- A resident within the area of jurisdiction of the school board
- Eligible to be an elector of that school board for which the person is a candidate
- Not disqualified by any Act from holding such office.
- Not ineligible to vote in the municipality
- Not an employee of a school board unless they take an unpaid leave of absence before being nominated, and resigns if elected
- Not a judge of any court
- Not a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario, a Senator or a member of the House of Commons
- Not an inmate of a penal or correctional institution under sentence of imprisonment
- Not disqualified for violation of financial requirements or violations of requirements for filing financial information
