Thanksgiving Turkey Trek

This Thanksgiving weekend we are challenging you to disconnect from the screens and reconnect with nature and each other, by joining the Township of Mulmur’s Turkey Trek from October 7-10, 2022.  

To participate, all you have to do is hike, walk, skip, hop, dance, jog, roll, or a combination of them all, on one of our amazing loops of the Bruce Trail dufferinbrucetrailclub.org.  

Find the poster somewhere along the trail, take a photo with the challenge sign and post it to social media - Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Your post must include the hashtag #mulmurturkeytrek and your location. Not on social media? No worries. Upload your photos on the entry form, using the QR code.  Can you complete 3 trails in one weekend?  You get one entry and chance to win for each trail completed. Youngsters under 13yrs who hike at least 3km can earn a FREE  Madge our Badge, from the Bruce Trail Conservatory   https://dufferinbrucetrailclub.org/dufferin-bruce-trail-club-badges/ 

Mulmur Hills Loop (Friendship Trail)  

Entry Point:  Parking at 716553, 716599 1st Line East, Mulmur
(120 metres south of 10 Sideroad on east side of 1st Line)

trail-map-1.png?set=content_mediumShort Hike: From the east end of the parking lot, follow the Bruce Trail Main Trail (white blazes) over the stream and across the fields to the forest. Stay on the Main Trail for about 10 more minutes. When you reach it, take the Enchanted Forest Side Trail (blue blazes) to your right and follow it to the bottom of the hill where it ends. Go right on the Main Trail and follow it over a bridge and along the creek. Just before the next bridge turn right on the Moss Haven Side Trail (blue blazes). Follow this trail, cross another bridge and at the end go left on the Main Trail back to the parking lot.

Medium Hike: From the east end of the parking lot, follow the Bruce Trail Main Trail (white blazes) over the stream and across the fields to the forest. Stay on the Main Trail for about 30 more minutes. Just before the second bridge turn right on the Moss Haven Side Trail (blue blazes). Follow this trail, cross another bridge and at the end go left on the Main Trail back to the parking lot.

Long Hike: From the east end of the parking lot, follow the Bruce Trail Main Trail (white blazes) over the stream and across the fields to the forest. Stay on the Main Trail for about an hour. At the second junction of the Oliver Creek Side Trail (just past the bench) go right on this blue blazed side trail. Follow this trail west and then north, crossing two short bridges and climbing a hill. Where this side trail ends, take the Main Trail (white blazes) left. Cross two bridges. Just past the second bridge turn left on the Moss Haven Side Trail (blue blazes). Follow this trail, cross another bridge and at the end go left on the Main Trail back to the parking lot.

Pine River Valley Trails

Entry Point: Prince Of Wales & 15th Sideroad   
Note:  all three of the Pine River hikes take about 1 hour and 45 minutestrail-maps.png?set=content_medium

Kilgorie Loop: Park at the 15 Sideroad/Prince of Wales intersection. 30 metres north on the east side you’ll see the Kilgorie Side Trail. Follow the blue blazes through the forest to the road and go left. Keep following the blue blazes to where the trail ends at River Road. Go left across the bridge and take the Main Trail (white blazes) to your right. Follow the white blazes past the old Power Station to River Road. Go right, cross the bridge and go left. Follow this trail up to the Bell Lookout Side Trail. (This is a short, 5 minute detour if you wish to take it). Stay on the white blazed trail heading west, then north. At 15 Sideroad go right and follow the white blazed trail back to your vehicle.

If you're lucky you may see the spawning salmon in the Pine River! 

Pine River Valley Loop: Park at the 15 Sideroad/Prince of Wales intersection. Take the Main Trail (white blazes) west along 15 Sideroad. After 40 metres this trail heads left into the forest. When it meets 15 Sideroad again, go left for about 80 metres to the Pine River Valley Side Trail. Take this blue blazed trail west to the blue blazed Carl Alexander Side Trail. Follow this trail to the end, where it meets the Pine River Valley Side Trail.  Go straight ahead on this blue blazed trail. Stay on this trail to where it ends at 15 Sideroad. Take the white blazed Main Trail to the right back to your vehicle.

Melodonna Loop: Park at the 15 Sideroad/Prince of Wales intersection. Take the Main Trail (white blazes) north along Prince of Wales for about 10 minutes. The trail turns left off the road and you climb over a stile. Follow the Main Trail to the blue blazed Melodonna Side Trail. Take this trail to where it ends, just before the second bridge. Take the Main Trail (white blazes) left across the bridge and follow this trail back to Prince of Wales. Go right, back to your vehicle.

Challenge Rules:

Hike one or all of the designated "challenge trails" find the Turkey Trek sign. Scan the QR code, to enter and upload your hike pics.

2 - Post a Photo Online
Take a photo with the challenge sign and post it to social media - Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. Your post must include the hashtag #mulmurturkeytrek and your location. Not on social media? No worries. Upload your photos on the entry form.

3 - Enter to Win

All participants can pick up their “Hiking in Mulmur” badge at the Township Office Monday to Friday between 8:30am and 4:30pm.

Eligibility
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY. By entering the challenge, the entrant consents to the release of his/her name. The entrant declares to have complied with the challenge rules.

Contest Period
All entries must be submitted between October 7-10, 2022. 

The prize winners will be contacted via email or phone. After three attempts to notify the winner without success another draw will take place.

Photos
The Township of Mulmur reserves the right to use shared photos/visuals in post-contest materials without notification of the entrant.
